Professor Michael A. Saini, PhD, MSW, RSW is a Professor at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, where he holds the Factor-Inwentash Chair in Law and Social Work. He is also Co-Director of the Combined J.D./M.S.W. Program with the Faculty of Law. He teaches Family Mediation, Conflict Resolution, Law and Social Work, and the Intersections of Policy and Practice for Children and Families.
His research focuses on coparenting relationships, adult attachment and conflict, mediation, access to justice, parenting plan evaluations, and evidence-informed decision-making. With over 200 publications, he is recognized for advancing knowledge of parent-child contact problems, parenting plans, high-conflict families, family violence and the parenting disputes within child protection settings. His contributions have been widely recognized, including the 2019 Stanley Cohen Distinguished Research Award (AFCC) and the Meyer Elkin Essay Award for the best article in Family Court Review (2018).
Professor Saini serves as the President of Family Mediation Canada (FMC), the Immediate-Past President of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), a Board Member of the Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children (CCRC), an Associate Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL) and a member of the International Society of Family Law.
