Dear Chapter Members and Champions of AFCC,
As some of you may have already heard, we lost an incredible friend and long-time board member: Janet Miller Denton. Professionally, Janet was a former Texas Chapter AFCC President, long-time board member, Director of the Tarrant County Dispute Resolution Center, and former Director of Tarrant County Family Court Services, and respected attorney.
Janet was a pillar of the family law community and the Texas AFCC board. With her quick wit and seemingly unending knowledge, Janet was our go-to person when we needed wisdom and guidance. Janet was such a mainstay on our board that we joked that no one knew how long she had been a board member. In fact, Janet served on the board for nearly two decades and served as President from 2012-2014.
Personally, Janet was hilarious and witty. She was a great leader; someone who made you feel like she was your sister. By all accounts, her staff at Tarrant County adored her. Truly, Janet was a once in a lifetime human.
This is an immense loss, and we will miss her greatly. On behalf of Texas AFCC, we want to extend our condolences to Janet’s beautiful family, friends, and colleagues. Janet was an incredible friend and mentor to so many. Her contributions were on display this past Fall at our annual conference when Janet was the first-ever recipient of our President’s Award. It was a special moment for all in attendance. Going forward will be difficult, but we will do it with Janet’s spirit in our hearts.
As a Board and as Chapter members, we hope to carry on Janet’s legacy of pursuing better outcomes for court-involved families. We hope you will join us.
All our best,
The Texas AFCC Board of Directors
